So McAfee just decided to eat Cisco (the authentication program I need to access wireless on-campus). By which I mean, it decided it was dangerous and quarantined it...without asking me. And wouldn't allow me to access quarantined items. Seriously. The instructions to access quarantined items are:

  • Go to the Home Page (of McAfee)
  • Click on 'Navigation' in the top right corner
  • Click on 'Features'
  • Click on 'Quarantined Items'

So the first time I tried it, 'Navigation' was not there. Um. (It is possible that, despite all the times I clicked 'Home', I was not actually on the home page. I would not put it past McAfee for their links to be decoys.)

Eventually, after several restarts (in the process of trying to fix the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling Cisco, which went terribly wrong for reasons I do not understand but probably were McAfee's fault again, specifically the McAfee firewall) the 'Navigation' link did indeed show up right where it was supposed to be, but once I click through to 'Features' there is no Quarantined Items, nor anything to do with quarantined items, nor any feature I can click on that will then take me to quarantined items.

Eventually to fix the problem I had to do a system restore to before the quarantine, at which point it still would not work because Cisco was having some sort of script issue (which, I assume, is why it was quarantined in the first place) but then the internet was actually redirecting me to the site to install Cisco so I just did an uninstall and reinstall and it's obviously working now because I am not a mutant whose power is to access the internet with my mind, as awesome as that would be.

Also, the most annoying thing about all of this bullshit is that Cisco requires you to have McAfee installed, or else it won't let you in. You would think they would pick an antivirus that could tell the difference between Cisco having a meltdown and, you know, an actual virus.
