The Continued Adventures of Failface
Mar. 21st, 2011 01:11 amOMFG I just encountered a tangle of total fail with my computer. It was so frustrating but IT'S ALL WORKED OUT NOW YAY
But basically McAfee expired, and...had somehow wrapped itself around Microsoft Forefront like a parasitic ivy, and forced Forefront to not work somehow because of its expiring. And the school network security wouldn't let me log in unless I had an 'acceptable antivirus' working. It even gave me a little button to click to 'repair the problem', which kept giving me an error message, and I didn't know if this was a 'keep trying/restart and try again until it works' error message, or a 'lol actually you can't really do anything from here, you have to go bring it to tech support, the button was just a psych-out, it's probably not even your antivirus that's the problem' error message, which the school network security is notorious for.
Seriously, when your school password expires, there is no message to tell you that...the security client just refuses altogether to come up. And when you try to re-install it, it just craps out in the middle with some ambiguous error (after letting you feed the download site your username and password WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM OR ANY SORT OF INDICATION THAT YOUR PASSWORD HAS EXPIRED.) And basically they just rely on most people remembering from last year that this weird passive-aggressive dance actually means 'go down to the library and use one of those computers to reset your password' to keep the poor tech support desk from being flooded by EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN THE SCHOOL one day a year.
Anyways I basically fixed the problem by fucking buying Mcafee because I was too frustrated to work out how to pry its death-grip off of Forefront. I am equally irritated with Mcafee and my school.
But IN BETTER NEWS it turns out there was no problem with my housing sign-up for next year, I am just very dumb, and now the head of the reslife department knows it.
...Actually I think I am not incredibly stupid, the page is just incredibly CONFUSING, because it lists 'start time for females' which indicates when SELECTION starts for female students, and then it lists 'your start time' which is apparently WHEN I START LIVING IN THE HOUSING I SELECT, not when I get to select my housing. They are both in the same table. I feel like this would be confusing to most people.
P.S. ( BEICHTE )
