I've decided to make this post public - it's just a collection of resources and cool things, especially for art. Because I trust LJ more than I trust my computer/browsers, so this is better than bookmarks, for me.

Anybody looking for me here: I can now be found at my new creative accountability journal, [personal profile] lizard_brain. Peace out!

I don't know why you decided to end a relationship of around 10 years by ghosting me. I assume I must have done something pretty bad. For you to be afraid to tell me you didn't want to see me any more.

Alright. Maybe I'll use this journal again now. For something other than you. Or maybe I'll start a new one and start over. Maybe I should get off Dreamwidth altogether. I don't know.

So, long story short: My sister was fostering three female guinea pigs from her school's animal lab over winter break, only it turned out that one of them was male and that this mistake had happened over a month ago and the two females were in fact quite pregnant. Now, if a guinea pig doesn't give birth by the time she's 2 years old, her hipbones fuse, making it extremely difficult for her to successfully give birth, so the plan was to bring them back to the school for an abort spay; but one of them unexpectedly went into labor a week or so earlier than we expected, and despite the odds, gave birth to two healthy babies!

Meanwhile, I had just learned how to shoot my photos in RAW, so the guinea pigs made perfect...uh...guinea pigs for practicing my photography.

Pigs under here )

So yeah, those were the piggies. They've since gone back to the school lab. The babies will probably need a home, so they might come back to us for good after this semester is over. (The other pregnant pig gave birth and survived, but her pups were stillborn.)

Hi friends!

I don't really know how many of y'all are still active. But I think I might be in a place to actually start using DW/LJ again for real. I've been writing a lot more lately (mostly in private to [personal profile] beasts_of_homeworld) and it's easier.

Here's a quick rundown of what's happened during the time I've been dark:

Biggest thing...I discovered that I'm not actually bad at keeping track of my finances. The reason I always thought there should be more money in my account than there was...was because there SHOULD have been more money. Turns out that literally since my first paycheck from Santander (the bank I was working at) three years ago, my father has been forging checks against my account and taking out all my extra money. He stole over $17,500.00 from me all told.

I haven't gotten any explanation of why he did this or a real apology. Mom is fixated on paying me back the money and keeping track of how much he owes me, but I know I'm not going to get the money back, and that's not really the issue anyway. If he had asked for the money, I probably would have given it to him without ever expecting it to be payed back. The issue is that he stole from me. On a regular basis for three years.

And I discovered all of this when my account overdrew when it shouldn't have (by a considerable amount - I bought furniture for my room, which he went with me AND HELPED ME PICK OUT, but at no point said 'oh I took all that money out of your account btw') so I've been in financial crisis mode for a bit, but that is finally, mostly, sorted out. But I have nothing towards savings for moving out of the house. When I should have had a nice cushion of $17k+.

That aside...other news...I started a new job at the beginning of the year. Still banking, but with a very small local bank. It's nice. I'm considering going back to school for a degree in something like internet security or coding. Not right now obviously because I have no money to pay for anything.

The chickens are doing well. The dog is good. Elderly, but otherwise good.

Oh! There were baby guinea pigs. But that might be its own post. I took photos. I still take a lot of photos, I have a nice DSLR now, a Nikon D3300 that I named Cricket, that I got as a gift. I've had it for a year now but I'm still learning how to use it well.

Anyways...yeah...hi

So, I don't find myself with much to say these days. But I am still a shutterbug. In fact, I got a new camera for Christmas, a fancy DSLR (Nikon D3300).

And there's no reason I can't share some pictures :D?

Long time no see~~

I am slowly getting back some spare social energy after a variety of life changes (most notably new teller job which is still going very well). I really didn't mean to disappear off the face of LJ/DW, I'm just working a lot more than I used to which means interacting with other people face-to-face a lot more than I'm used to doing.

Which, btw, is one of the great things about new job! I can now work 32 hours (and overtime! when I get it! even up to 40 hours!) without feeling like I am physically falling apart, since my job no longer requires that I stand for my entire shift, run around like a panicked deer, and haul heavy objects. Also, my boss doesn't try to guilt me if I call in sick (and I get actual payed sick days!) which helps, like, a ton.

I am still nervous sometimes that my physical condition will (almost definitely) continue to deteriorate. My leg and back both started acting up today for reasons unknown. I wasn't being especially active or anything. I also have some other health issues (that I have talked about in the past, but IDK if I want to talk about out from under locked posts any more TBH) that have been definitely getting worse as well.

Ummm...other interesting things that have happened...sister has turned out to be a genius seamstress. She made her first proper clothing item a couple of months ago - she even heavily modified the pattern - and it fit her perfectly and looked awesome, and I'm still processing the fact that she can even use a sewing machine, which I can't figure out for the life of me.

Also, Banjo-Kazooie is available now for digital download on the X-Box and we've been reliving our childhood with me playing through it and sister watching and making snarky comments and occasionally providing aid when I get stuck. It is much easier than we remember, which she and I have determined is probably because the last time I played, the N64 controllers were literally too big for my hands to hold properly.

Anyways, I'm going to be more active here probably? Ummmm don't expect too much from me all at once eh. But I will almost definitely be revising my access lists and quite possibly setting a lot of old entries to private/protected; I know there are a few of my old entries that are important to people, so if there's any you think I should consider leaving public, feel free to let me know.

I have a job now

:D

also, I'm done driving back and forth 1.5-2 hours both ways every day for training like I have been doing all this week (I'm gonna get reimbursed for the travel though, omg)

This is just a quick apology to everybody I haven't commented or otherwise spoken to lately, and anybody I owe things to (like [profile] zombieboyband, I know I owe you the sketch for the thing, I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN I PROMISE I'm actually working on it just really slowly)

Basically my impending life as an employed person again has made me a complete mess of anxiety, for some reasons I understand and some reasons I don't, so I've pretty much been reduced lately to doing pixel art and harassing my chickens all day. I'm feeling much better right at this moment but IDK how I will actually be doing once training starts (tomorrow). We'll see. Maybe I'll be able to talk to people and do things again!

So I wrote this post earlier today, then deleted it in a fit of ennui or something, and then [profile] sugar_for_sugar PMed me and I realized some of you probably think I'm dead and/or hate all of you now, which is not true! I've just been doing stuff lately, and what is a small amount of stuff for most people can be a large amount of stuff for me. So...life updates:

  • Paige and Derek now both off to school. I got to trade mattresses with Paige again (when I first started college, she stole my nice one and gave me her crappy one) and Dad is also moving his home office into her room, so I get my room back!
  • Going off of last point, I am considering getting one or more of the following: a TV (I have never had a TV in my bedroom, so that's a big thing for me ok), some pet mice, a pet lizard
  • Had a job interview for a teller position. I thought it went well, but haven't heard back about it. Oh well.
  • Am in the process of scheduling an interview for a 'social media/web coordinator' position sometime next week. They weren't very clear on what the position entailed but they needed someone good at internetting and listed familiarity with Adobe suite, HTML experience and graphic design abilities as a plus. So.
  • Tripper is getting old. Also, he's very upset about two whole people being gone from the house. He keeps waking up in the middle of the night and coming to me for cuddles. He needs to see the vet to see if we can do anything to help with his hips, they're getting worse again.
  • I've started playing Flight Rising. DRAGONS.
  • I also recently downloaded Terraria. It's basically all the fun I thought Minecraft would be, with visuals I find more pleasing and easy to understand :D
  • The chickens are nice and big now. The cochins might start laying sometime this month? I'm not actually sure when they start laying since they're not a laying breed but they're getting red in the face. The other three are all breeds known for starting late and laying longer, so they might start sometime this winter or the cold might put them off until next spring, which is what I'm hoping for.
  • I am starting the process of shopping around for a new drawing tablet, so suggestions welcome. Intuos are out of my price range.
  • I've been watching and enjoying the shows Netflix has been producing (specifically Orange is the New Black and Hemlock Grove). I don't actually recommend the latter unless you're a huge horror fan who can overlook some pretty problematic plotting though. I might do a proper post on them later, after I actually finish season 1 of HG. I do solidly recommend OITNB.

P.S. Video of me and my chickens being embarrassingly dorky together:

So Dad has been out of town for a couple of days. Derek (my brother) left town today to go hang out with friends.

Shortly before he left but before any of us could talk to him, we discovered...the situation? Apparently something went down in the upstairs bathroom last night.

The toilet lid is closed, and there is a sign on it reading 'DO NOT USE. Toilet is broken. Sorry. -Derek'

There are (dry, clean) paper towels scattered all over the floor.

There is a single (empty, apparently clean) plastic cup sitting in the middle of the floor.

Our largest metal pot from the kitchen (of the size that you would use to make a large amount of soup or pasta) is sitting, empty and apparently clean, in the shower.

We are all too nervous to lift up the lid of the toilet and see what might be in there. We've decided unanimously to leave it for when either he or Dad gets home, and we are using the downstairs bathroom for now.

UPDATE. Mom has lifted the lid. The toilet is, unsurprisingly, full of tobacco dip.

I apologize if I say (or have said) anything weird/confusing...I haven't had much sleep. I've been helping [profile] dakfire dogsit. A puppy.

He's sleeping right now, but I'm betting in about ten minutes he's gonna want to go out again, and I'm gonna have to let him out because yesterday he snuck off and pooped inside without even asking to go out.

(And yes, you can see his ribs, that's just how boxer puppies are. He looks freaking emaciated, but has all the health and vigor and glossy coat of a normal puppy...it's really weirding me out.)

So I'm gonna sleep now while he's sleeping okay o A o;;;

So, I made a bread!

Actually, I did this like a week ago, and kept meaning to make a proper post about it, but I kept putting it off. Okay. Here it is. )

Tripper got pepper-sprayed by the mailman today! Repeatedly. He's fine, because apparently they're using some really mild spray, it didn't even stop him charging.

The main issue is that when Paige went out immediately to grab him (somebody left hte door unlatched and he charged it open, Paige ran out after him) the man kept spraying /in her direction/ as she tried to grab Tripper, and then swore at her.

Dad got home pretty much right after, and when he heard that, he chased down the mailman in his car to tell him off (for the swearing obvs).

Overall, an embarrassing incident...we need to get a mailbox at the road, or just stop having them deliver and go pick up the mail ourselves. Honestly, neither our family nor our dog are well-suited to suburban living. I want to just fence in the yard and be done with it TBQH but nobody else is in favor of that, something to do with actually desiring contact with other people.

I saw The Conjuring tonight! It was pretty excellent, highly recommended :D IMO it's exactly what a good exorcism movie should be, and there aren't very many of those.

In other news, I spent a good deal of time trying to figure out if there was a way to put 'intermediate faerie wrangler, can assist if you're having trouble with them' on my tumblr profile before deciding to just leave it off.

Wow, this is a short post. I kind of want to write more on The Conjuring, but I don't think it's gonna happen. And I doubt you guys want to hear me go on about horror movies anyways, really.

Resolve: I have to spend some time every day working on SOMEthing creative and productive. Art, designing video games, writing (if I find any writing to do). Baking would also count, if I can get myself in the emotional state to bake again. Sewing counts.

Things that do not count: designing clothing or other patterns in ACNL, anything to do with Flight Rising (when their sign-up is open again and I can get in) (not even doing adoptables to sell on the site would count), just reading tutorials/resources by itself (at least some productive work must get done), any photography, cleaning up old art enough to post it somewhere.

How much time? I am not sure right now. I might not be able to get it to time increments...I want to be able to. But for now I think I'll just do some work every day.

Even tomorrow (even though we're going out of town for the day for P&D's graduation party with family). I mean, there's a two-hour ride there and back, I might as well use some of the time to start on the plot for Lesbrarians 2 (uh, what [profile] dakfire and I call that first game I made/the sequel to it/the two protagonists).

So.

WHY IS IT COLD OUT NOW.

We finally finished the coop (where 'finished' means 'the chickens can live there now' rather than 'there is no more work to be done') and moved them in yesterday without accounting for how cold it would get. THEY WERE SHIVERING THIS MORNING. I am a terrible chicken parent.

I put their heat lamp in there today so they should be okay now.

Pics to follow )

...So the desktop computer in the other room (mom's computer, technically) is making that noise Windows makes when you're trying to hit multiple keys at once/hitting keys when there's an alert up/etc.

There's nobody in there

I'm going to go investigate, if I don't come back, IT WAS A GHOST. oAo

Update: Investigated. There is a properties window open, so any key/mouse input outside of it would cause the noise. But it creeped me out that the sound stopped as soon as I flicked the light on, so I just left it alone. As soon as I got back in here, it started doing it again. ;n;
