[livejournal.com profile] outdatedclocks has pointed out that my lower-back/hip problems, and my leg problems, are probably all related to the issues I have with my feet (lack of arches?). I've been making do with CVS-brand arch support pads, but they're not really enough, and I'd like to be able to do some cardio and upper-body stuff again, which I can't really now since my back hurts alllll the time. I'd been putting off talking to my doctor about it because of my terrible experiences with my last one...even though this one's shown no indication she's suddenly going to go all 'you're lying, you must be sneaking nachos in the middle of the night, fatty' on me. In fact, she'll probably be happy to help me out, since she wants me exercising before I go on T since I have a genetic disposition towards hypertension (dad's been hospitalized for it).

BTW, for those curious about the whole doctor saga, since I've posted it around a few places but not actually here at my main journal I think (since I just realized last night [livejournal.com profile] ocelotofdoom had never read the whole thing)...I submitted the whole thing to First, Do No Harm (excellent blog BTW) so you can read it here (it's so long I don't see a need to copy+paste it here P:)

Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] ocelotofdoom, we might be hanging out this weekend :D or rather, probably are. I am still working out the logistics, I think I'll stay on campus this weekend and take the train into the city. It would mean missing a therapy appointment, but I've skipped weeks in the past (or rather, therapist has cancelled on me) so I know it won't do any damage emotionally or to my comfort level with him.

Okay I really should go to class 6 u 9;;

Went to the grocery store with dad! Got all necessary baking materials! Hooray! Dad made car noises while pushing the cart, and old-fashioned video game noises when putting things in the cart. This is why I like shopping with him.

Also, just now I was wrestling with Tripper, and he apparently figured out a trick to play on me, lmfao. He had started getting tired, so I made kissy noises at him, and he put his head down...and then when I moved in to kiss him, he licked my mouth. He seemed very pleased with himself after, and did it three more times :P little rotter. Right now he's wandering between the living room and the family room, since I'm in one and mom and dad are in the other, and he wants to be with all of us. Baww.

Anyways, baking later! Will take photos!

ALSO found my binder! It was indeed in the laundry.

ETA: BAKING RIGHT NOW. Just got attacked by an egg. Drop of yolk flew up in the air and landed on the back of my hand. SHIT JUST GOT REAL.

ETA2:
[02:20] Me: ((ONO MY MIXING BOWL IS NOT BIG ENOUGH))
[02:20] Me: ((COCOA POWDER GOIN EVERYWHERE))
[02:20] Amanda: ((HOMG NOOOO))
[02:20] Me: ((WUT DO I DO O n O))
[02:20] Amanda: ((TURN IT OFFFFFF))

FOR THE RECORD I had already turned it off. And a solution has been found.

ETA 3: All done with tonight's baking! Which didn't really involve any baking actually. I made the chocolate sugar cookies dough and put it in the fridge to chill, hoping that will make it more docile. It was a BEAST. From right before I wrestled it into a ziplock bag:

[02:35] Me: ((i would describe hte consistancy as 'stubborn as a motherfucker'))

I've coated a bunch of vanilla wafers in milk chocolate and colored white chocolate (pink and green). As I was getting ready to put the milk chocolate ones away, I had the two containers of finished pink and green next to me, and the cat was eating (I had just let her out of the basement - dad accidentally shut her in, AGAIN.) She was interested in what I was doing, as always, so I let her sniff the two full containers since they were closed. Her verdict? She spit a chunk of catfood on them.

IDK what that means, does anybody speak Cat, specifically the Evil Fucking Cat Demon dialect?

Anyways, tomorrow issss rolling, cutting and baking the cookies in the morning, decorating them with eggs at night after Paige gets back from her third day of Anime Boston.

Soooo last night I mentioned how I had to sit in the common room since the roommate is sick.

This ended up being actually dangerous, since I am always finding new and inventive ways of hurting myself.

Basically, there are four pieces of furniture in there: a couch and a chair, both more uncomfortable than any piece of furniture I have ever sat on (the cushions are like actively trying to push you off the seat, and the 'arms' are too skinny and hard for anybody to ever actually rest their arms on comfortably); and a coffee table and an end table. I had been sitting on the couch and resting my feet on the end table, but last night I decided to try the chair instead!

And then because I am incredibly me, I ended up with my computer on the coffee table, hunched over it. For like two hours. When I got up to go to bed, my back went "OH FUCK NO." and I pretty much almost fell over.

When I woke up this morning it really wasn't much better, so I finally took some alieve (tbh I didn't take it last night because I didn't think I actually had any and didn't want to search for it in the dark) and slept through my first class. Or rather, most of my first class. I actually could have gone to half of it, but was so confused when I woke up that I went to my second class instead, except...I actually went to the second half of the FIRST SECTION of my second class, that is, the section I'm not even in, which ended with both me and the teacher very confused when he tried to find my test to hand back to me, but HE was quite sure I was in the first section as well, and it wasn't until after I got out of class and looked at my phone and realized my class didn't start for another HALF HOUR that I realized I had been in the wrong class. Omfg.

So I have another class after 3 and then I am supposed to drive home, only I don't know if I can actually sit up for that long. It's better now, but still...wicked uncomfortable, especially when sitting. Basically I don't want to drive when I'm this distracted by pain, and also this tired because obviously I didn't sleep very well last night (I had the fucking weirdest dreams, lol, and one of them was about Black and White 2, wtf. But I always have weird dreams when I'm in pain). So I called dad and he's going to be in Boston tonight anyways, so he's going to come pick me up around 10-11ish, unless mom wants to come pick me up before then, but I doubt it.

But the worst part is that now I will have to postpone my grocery shopping trip for all the baking I wanted to do until tomorrow. Unless mom picks me up early and wants to go out with me, but IDK if I can remain upright for that long, lol. But, at the rate I am recovering now, I expect to be fully functional by tomorrow. With the help of some ibuprofen.

And since I keep promising to talk about reiki but still haven't, really...I did use some reiki to sooth it, I probably wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise. It didn't help overmuch, but I was able to relax the muscles (which helped quite a bit immediately afterwards) and, as usual, it put me easily in a meditative state, which helped me basically ignore the pain.

Awkwarrddd

D:

So uh...my roommate is sick. She has therefor asked me to not be in the room unless I'm sleeping, because she wants the light off and apparently even a computer screen bothers her. Okay, sure, we have a suite common room for that after all.

Only, I hadn't realized until now that...one of the girls in the other room in our suite seems to have moved out. And the remaining girl has pretty much let her boyfriend move in. And they have sex frequently. Loud enough to be heard from the common room (but apparently not from our room thanks to cement walls). HELLO HEADPHONES.

ANYWAYS, in other not-awkward news, next weekend is EASTER WEEKEND. Our family is one of those families that does the easter present thing, which I have only recently learned is apparently not all that common? Anyways it's kind of a big deal for us. So I've decided to bake something, of course. I spent pretty much all day thinking 'what if I added cocoa powder to sugar cookies?!!!' but turns out that those ALREADY EXIST :D so I am totally making them. Probably some regular sugar cookies as well.

I'm not sure if I'll use that royal icing recipe...I already have a similar one that doesn't include egg whites, and I'm kind of, um, wary of making icing with raw egg whites, although I am pretty sure that's standard. The problem is though that the recipe I've used relies entirely on confectioner's sugar to make it thick and white and therefor be able to be colored vibrantly, and although it went fine on regular sugar cookies, I'm not sure the colors will look good at all on a darker cookie. IDK GUYS IDK I will probably end up doing this egg white one. Also will let everybody decorate their cookies, on top of decorating eggs. Because this isn't exactly Christmas, it's not like we're giving these cookies to other people like we did at Christmas.

Anyways the other thing I want to do is buy some like, animal crackers or vanilla wafers or something cheap, and dip them in chocolate. Since I am no longer afraid of melting chocolate. I think I'll actually do colored white chocolate, like actual animal crackers do a lot (do they use food coloring for that? I assume so...or do you have to buy special colored white chocolate? I can probably look this up.)

OKAY I just looked it up and apparently there are these special oils and candy colors for coloring white chocolate, BUT you can also use food coloring as long as you mix it in really well. Alright! I'll look and see if I can get these candy coloring things at the grocery store, but I doubt it, they barely even carry food coloring (seriously, they carry like one pack of four colors, it's pitiful). Maybe they'll have them at Michael's...? They do have that little baking section...and JoAnne's also has a baking section that is pretty impressive and I just found the other day...there are no like, baking specialty stores around here :C

Anyways yeah THAT'S MY WEEKEND. I also bought some things on Amazon (all with amex points! Yay!) that I hope will get there this weekend. Some books (a few classics I haven't read yet, and Jennifer Government because I love dystopian fiction, although I was a bit concerned by the fact that there are tons on Amazon used for pretty much $4.00, lol) and a simulation computer game, Black and White 2, since I tried the demo and it's pretty addictive. Like, I want to go play the demo AGAIN even though I've already played it through and know I'll mostly just be frustrated because it's 75% tutorial.

Whatever GOING TO GO PLAY IT AGAIN.

Skipping some of biopsych to bring you my bakery post! Also, I had a dream last night that EDDIE IZZARD was in. I rarely meet awesome celebrities in my dreams :D or any kind of celebrity, really. Also, I used the name 'Domino' in-dream. IDK, it felt very adventurous.

Anyways, beyond the cut is photos and tales of a cooking adventure!

Did some more baking yesterday! Paige's cat Nikka helped me take photos.

BROWNIES THIS WAY )

I promised chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips too, but I didn't have time. I was helping Paige make a plush for a cosplay she's doing for Anime Boston this year...it was Mr. Mew from uh...The World Ends With You? I think that's what it's called. I'm not very familiar. Anyways I tried to get photos of the finished plush but the photos came out crap so oh well.

BAKING SUCCESS. Today I did the experimental less-butter batch of brownies and the puppy chow. THEN I TOOK PHOTOS :D

FOLLOW THE SMELL OF BAKING BROWNIES )

BRB resisting eating more puppy chow.

WENT SHOPPING WITHOUT SHOPPING LIST due to power going out right as I was about to go double-check the recipes. Somehow managed to get everything I need anyways, because I am a genius. Well, I mean, I didn't get a thing of peanut butter for the puppy chow nor did I know I would need it, but we always have untouched cans of peanut butter around, so it wasn't a problem.

I won't even pretend that this is because I am always prepared. This was actually because I was salivating about brownies all week and because of that actually formed most of my shopping list in my head on like, Wednesday.

Anyways yeah. Today was supposed to be pretty boring, but the weather decided to make it more exciting :D literally right as I left my last class to go get ready to drive home, it started pouring rain. And as I got onto the highway, it started snowing (but neglected to stop pouring rain, because spring around here often means two-for-one deals on weather). When I got home I had finally got ahead of the storm, which caught up a few hours later, and managed to hit a power line that supplies something like half our town despite a complete lack of HIGH WINDS OR ANYTHING REALLY DANGEROUS EXCEPT RAIN AND LIGHT SNOW. I am still confused about how that branch came down (we actually drove around to find it, because when the situation is THIS PUZZLING and you're going to the grocery store anyway, that's what you do). It survived the whole winter, but a bit of wet snow was too much for it?!

ANYWAYS basic schedule is as follows: tomorrow morning, nutella brownies (less butter); tomorrow afternoon, chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips. Saturday morning, puppy chow; Saturday afternoon, nutella brownies (peanut butter chips).

OMFG now I want to go work on a chocolate-and-peanut-butter-inspired custom design on Aramii. I ALREADY PLAYED AROUND WITH FUNFETTI CUSTOM IDEAS THE OTHER DAY, TOO. I am not convinced that combining Aramii and delicious baked goods is a good idea.

Skipped out on Marketing early today because it was a mess pretty much, and it was the 'Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs' lesson that I have gotten in literally every business class I have taken. Which is pretty funny since I haven't seen it in a single psych class since high school. Anyways yeah that class was a mess, he started by talking about his allergies for about ten minutes, then veered off abruptly down Racism Road to talk about how you cannot trust Indian-Americans who run motels and they never hire good cleaners and do not care if you sleep in semen. And then he got into the actual lesson, only to be sidetracked into a discussion (...with himself) about 'yuppie' fashion, and that part was pretty hilarious because he was naming clothing brands that people in the class were wearing as 'yuppie' and some of the preppier students were getting irritated. But then I was hungry so I decided food was probably more important than whatever entertainment he might provide next.

IN OTHER NEWS, my cold broke last evening and is now pretty much gone, but has left one of my nostrils so dried out that I got a nosebleed in class today. My favorite class. And the teacher doesn't tolerate people leaving class either, and I'm sure she would understand for a nosebleed but I would have still felt like an ass, and I had a tissue in my pocket anyways, so I just kind of sat there with a nosebleed. And now it is bleeding again. adlksjafa *shoves tissues in nose*

OKAY now on to what I was actually going to post about in the first place: I have decided pretty much what I am baking this weekend!

  • one batch of nutella brownies with less butter
  • one batch of nutella brownies (after testing less butter and determining if it was a success or not) with peanut butter chips
  • one batch of chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips (I have never made chocolate cookies before so if anybody has a better recipe to recommend feel free)
  • one batch of 'puppy chow'

  • I will try to get photos of all before they are eaten. I am especially excited about the puppy chow, it sounds delicious, omnomnom. And it will be an excuse to grab a box of honey chex since we'll be getting regular chex for the chow. I LOVE honey chex.
