Okay no seriously though what's up with privileged people really really hating labels that mark them as not part of a minority?
I hear it the most often about cis(gender/sexual), a lot of cis people get REALLY OFFENDED OVER THE TERM and the only reason they have is 'waah it sounds weird'. Besides the ones who are all 'I DON'T IDENTIFY AS CIS, DON'T CALL ME CIS. No I don't ID as trans either. I'm just a man ok'
But then there's also the straight people who subtly object to the term 'straight' and are basically like 'yeah I exclusively am attracted to people of the opposite gender but DON'T LABEL ME MAN, LABELS ARE FOR SOUP CANS'
And now there are some allistic people who are all 'but I find the terms allistic and neurotypical really offensive'
What? Why?!
I really don't get it. Is this some kind of privilege-denying shit or is it just because omg scary words I don't understand or...? Does it feel like they're being excluded from some kind of super-special fun club? I don't. Understand.
I could almost get behind the 'it's just uncomfortable to be given a label by other people' but the thing is like. Those on the other side of the divide get a hell of a lot more labels saddled on them by the privileged group. Labels are kind of a part of life and I think the ones that essentially means 'typical of the larger population in this regard' are not the ones to be concerned about.
