Dad and I just finished the cookie portion of our Xmas Bake-A-Thon. Approximately 12 dozen cookies. Yeah, 12 dozen. All from scratch, with icing from scratch too. And all COMPLETELY FUCKING DELICIOUS.

Timeline:
Monday night - grocery shopping
Tuesday morning/afternoon - made all the doughs and stuck in the fridge
Tuesday evening - made small test batches of everything; ate results OM NOM NOM
Wednesday afternoon/evening - baked the rest of everything

Here's what we made:

Peanut Butter Blossoms - used this recipe for the dough; made balls, rolled in granulated sugar, baked, then when they were done pressed Hersheys Kisses into them. Cookies were a bit drier than the storebought kind, due to the real peanuts and such, but still very good.
Gingerbread Cookies - used this recipe. Before this I didn't even realize mace was used in cooking LOL. Did you know molasses smells really fucking gross? The cookies are delicious, lots of flavor, rolled out really nice last night but today I had to add some water because the dough got a bit dry. Other than that no problems.
Sugar Cookies - used this recipe. The dough was delicious and we ate rather too much of it LOL. The cookies are good too :D the dough was very sticky after refrigerating though, when rolling out I had to work a substantial amount of flour into it before even starting. Once I did that it rolled out fine.
Vanillekipferln (Almond Crescents) - used this recipe. ADVENTURES IN GERMAN PASTRIES. This dough was such an asshole. First of all, it's a bit on the harder side to find vanilla sugar around here. Then I had to convert all the measurements and such - including the vanilla sugar, which is measured in PACKETS (fyi it is not sold in packets here lolol). Then the recipe calls for FLAKES OF BUTTER. I had to grate all of that butter (which was one and three-fourths sticks). I ended up with butter alllll over my hand and I never want to smell butter ever again. And then the dough refused to become a dough because apparently it really enjoyed being crumblies, but dad finally got it to behave with the help of the dough hook on the mixer at high speed (I was trying to knead it by hand). Oh, and we had to crush the nuts, which involved dad putting them in a plastic bag and beating them to death. But it was all worth it because THESE ARE THE MOST FUCKING DELICIOUS COOKIES I HAVE EVER HAD.

To ice the sugar and gingerbread cookies we used this icing recipe. It's delicioussss. We had to alter it a bit though, by the end we were starting out with 3 teaspoons each of milk and corn syrup, and adding a bit more if necessary depending on how it mixed up. I used 3-4 drops of food coloring to get vibrant but somewhat pastel colors; if we had better quality food coloring and not just 'the only box the grocery store had' brand, it probably would have been brighter. I drizzled it with a spoon and sometimes used my new glazing brushes to brush it on :3

We still plan to do some fudges and some breads. WOOOO BAKING WOOOOOOOOO
