Aug. 28th, 2012 02:05 amOh, I got to see the doctor about my leg today!
( TW: fatphobia, jerkishness )
But yeah my leg already feels quite a bit better, even though all he did was...manhandle it basically, which is not what I think led to it feeling better, LOL, although he probably did stretch it a fair bit. I was pretty much expecting to feel less pain after this visit...for those of you who want a short neuropsych lesson, here's why:
Pain does not occur in the body; pain occurs in the brain. Just like all other sensations. It does stem from messages coming from the body (as a general rule that is often broken), but the actual sensation of pain is not some annoying thing that your body does because it can't control itself; it's your brain's way of alerting you to a problem, and giving you impetus to FIX that problem.
So, for this reason, it's really common for pain from an injury or illness to decrease in intensity once plans are made to address the problem. You know you're doing something to fix your body - so your brain stops pressing so hard for you to do so. (This is why chronic pain can be difficult to manage, but also what makes it manageable at all. Although there have been no studies in the US or to my knowledge any western/white-dominated country about this, practices in other cultures suggest it's very possible to entirely or almost entirely be rid of pain - chronic or otherwise - without the aid of drugs, with a great deal of psychological work)
I was gonna say 'now I'll end this entry with the song I used lyrics from for my journal header, because I am an oldschool LJer and you cannot keep me from using lyrics in my journal header'
But then I realized that I used lyrics from Be Calm for my LJ, and lyrics from Benson Hedges for my TUMBLR not my LJ
BUT I WANT TO POST BENSON HEDGES
So that's what I'm gonna do
