Chicken Update!
Jun. 19th, 2013 01:46 pmThe framework for the coop is up now:

To celebrate, I took the babies out today to investigate a small portion of The Great Outdoors right next to their future home (you can't tell from the pics, but their box is right up against the foundation of the coop).

Some of them (especially the three darker girls, who are still smaller and probably will never grow to the same size as the Cochin sisters) can actually fly out of the box, but didn't have any interest in doing so when their sisters were all inside. When I brought the others inside, though, and came back out to get Puck (Barred Rock - the black and white one, she's pretty much established herself as the top hen) she flew out of the box when I opened it and perched on the edge to cheep at me indignantly for leaving her in the dark by herself :P

Date: 2013-06-21 09:27 pm (UTC)They are very precious little assholes :D
(Paige and Dad decided to let them run around the coop earlier today...which is still in the state pictured above...they pecked about calmly for a bit and then started making coordinated efforts to break out of our human safety fence by all following Puck up over the foundation and then running in different directions at the same time)
They are so cute and soft and warm though amfkds I can't help picking them up all the time even though now pretty much every one of them has gained a taste for human flesh and will start pecking as soon as you pick them up.
