THIS IS WHY YOU'RE GREAT!
my thread

I know y'all say wonderful things to me all the time that make me very happy, so soliciting even moar positive comments is probably a bit crass, but if there's anything you wanted to say anon or something that would be a good place? o u o

So I come home from work. The yard smells like skunk, eww. Then I notice Tripper's walking around out front...ffffff-

Fortunately I was able to handle it fairly well, showering him upstairs with the tomato V8 left over from last time. I think it worked better this time because I got him right away, and he only got hit in one spot. It was a very dramatic ordeal though, he refused to look at me the whole time, or move anywhere I wanted him to, just standing there with his head down. I do not understand a dog that loves swimming and loves to be wet, but hates being bathed/showered, regardless of water temperature...he'll dive readily into a filthy lake, but the shower or the hose? TORTUREEE.

He loves being dried off though, or more accurately, sharing his wetness with everybody :P as soon as I got out a towel and started drying him, I was his best friend again. And then while I showered myself (since I had just gotten home from work) he rolled all over the bathroom rug, then ran downstairs to rub himself on Paige and the couches despite only being damp...he also only gets the zoomies when he's wet :P

Okay I am using this entry to get some interview questions to Amanda that she's helpfully answering for me...although if anybody else wants to answer them (or even just a few of them) that would be very helpful :D comments are screened for privacy on this entry.

HEY LJFRANDS COULD YOU HELP ME OUT PERHAPS?

Okay so here's the dealio. For the research study I'm doing in China (yeah remember that? STILL FUCKING AWESOME) we want to collect some info from the US and other countries as well, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to also survey y'all. It's a really short survey, something like 9 questions. If you would like to answer (I WOULD BE RLY GRATEFUL) you can post your response in the comments here OR PM me if you don't want to divulge some of the information on it (I wouldn't say any of the questions are invasive/private, but there's the option).

Survey: High-Speed Rails )

In other news, the program we're using for this, SPSS, is AWESOME. I am seriously so excited to use such a powerful statistical analysis program. :D :D :D :D :D :D

OH and I just finished moving back home from the dorms. I had to carry all my stuff myself. MY ARMS FELL OFF. I typed all this with my nose.

JK I STILL HAVE MY ARMS AND AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR THEM.

P.S. Mom is now trying to ~reach out~ to me. She almost watched an Oprah episode with Sunny and Cher's son Chaz 'daughter Chastity' yesterday. "Maybe I'll catch it on reruns."

I do not know if she told me this because she thinks I would want to watch it, or because she thinks this is a good topic of conversation, or...

No, wait, I do know. Her brain runs on unfiltered, random connections.

ADVENTURE

Today was like, the LEAST FUN ADVENTURE DAY EVER.

First in business calc the professor jumped right into natural logs. Without teaching logarithms first. Apparently he felt it was precalc material, but a lot of the class hadn't learned it, and being this is our last day, he saw me scrambling to teach my half of the room logarithmic functions whenever he gave us time to work in groups, but did not stop to, you know, teach it himself, or realize that perhaps it isn't essential that he include this on the exam.

So basically I taught whatever students I could get around me logarithms, the concept of the number e (which he also didn't address), and then how to take the derivative of natural logs since we missed that while I was catching them up to what he was teaching at the beginning of class. Everybody else in the class is...on their own I guess, I honestly wish I could have helped them all but he didn't seem like he would hand the class over to me like my math teachers in high school did, and I just don't have time between now and the final to set up a study group.

So that was very frustrating. It, honestly, upsets the hell out of me when I see other students struggling because of lackluster teaching in the current or a past class. Which is why I end up tutoring a lot of the other students in the classes I'm in for free...

Anyways, then we had a wind storm! Like all day! 30+MPH winds. And I had to walk across campus through it. And then the professor I'm going to China with (Professor Wu) changed his mind about when we had to turn in the photos to go with our visa applications tomorrow, because he wants to turn them in with another group's applications. When before he said we had until next week. So I had to run down to CVS - I mean literally, since getting my car from where it's parked on campus would have taken too long compared to running there - THROUGH THE WINDSTORM. And then, because she's awesome, one of the other members of our group said I could just give it to her and she'd bring it to him, so I went back to my dorm room to put my photo with my application and then drove my car to her dorm so I could give it to her and it took me FOREVER to find out how to drive there because you'd think you'd be able to drive across campus, right? But the train station goes straight through the center of it and you have to go out into the town.

And then when I was driving home I got lost. Like. A town away from ours. Because I got off an exit early on purpose and then another exit early by accident, and was lost in the dark in some town I've never driven in before. BUT I FOUND MY WAY BACK. After ignoring my GPS for awhile despite its best efforts to get me home. I apologized to it later.

Anyways I'm home now and showered and dry (do you have any idea how wet rainy windstorms are?) and eating a chocolate bunny. And Tripper and I were so excited to see each other :D although he is now eyeing my chocolate bunny in a worrying manner. I'll have to be sure to keep it away from him.

ETA: AHSAHFLJKSAGLDSS HE GOT IT. >:{ But, it was low-quality milk chocolate, and only about a fourth of the bunny left, not anywhere near enough to hurt a dog his size in good health. Mostly I'm just upset that he got it, at him and myself for letting him.

I was out of the room for like, five seconds, and he slobbered his way up onto the table (I mean he left a LITERAL TRAIL OF SLOBBER.) And grabbed it and took it into the dining room, where he takes everything he steals (it was even one of the locations on my easter egg hunt, lololol; clue: 'If Tripper shouldn't have it, it's probably here.') I heard him chewing something in there, but didn't think it was the chocolate, because I thought mom was sitting in the living room so he wouldn't have taken it. I still went to check it out, but I couldn't see any traces left of whatever he ate, so I told him he should go to bed and stop causing trouble. He...went in his cage instead. That's pretty much when I realized he must have got the chocolate, because he doesn't usually go in his cage just for stealing food, but we had made it pretty clear to him that he wasn't allowed to have that chocolate.

NAUGHTY but at the same time when he puts himself in his cage it's so cuuuuute.

Had a meeting today with Marketing professor about the China trip :D we got copies of his proposal and all, and discussed a bit and asked questions. We'll be presenting the results at the research symposium here at the school, which I've participated in before and LOVED, and he's going to try to get the research published elsewhere as well. We're all writing on individual topics (related to high-speed rails), mine is how China and America will be cooperating as America works on Obama's high-speed railway project.

The professor also said some things about picking us based on our 'special talents' that made me basically feel like we're a team of superheroes. *pose*

Also, I've noticed lately that I resemble my dad in a lot of my formal gestures. How I sit in a chair when I'm being attentive, how I fold my hands (three different ways!), and the idle gestures I make when I'm thinking, and the different ones I make when I'm listening to someone; they're all identical to his. I didn't do it on purpose! lmfao.

I talked to mom about how I would need a set of formal clothes for the trip just in case, and she immediately started talking about hemming the slacks I bought :D I was afraid she was going to try to force me into that awful women's formal outfit she has for me.

Speaking of which, we're rooming two to a room on the trip, as I expected. I was going to just automatically room with Ying, but all of the girls are actually very nice. And that's the thing, it's all girls, which he said he did intentionally so the rooming situation wouldn't be awkward. Um. LOL. Anyways I am debating whether to come out to them all (I haven't had an opportunity to come out to Ying yet) and find out who would be comfortable rooming with me, or just...not. IDK IDK.

Oh, and to continue this wall of rambling, I took a nap earlier and had a dream with faeries in it. I don't think I've actually ever dreamt about faeries before. But it was probably just one of the freaky-ass dreams I tend to get at the beginning of my periods due to fatigue.

TO RESEARCH HIGH-SPEED RAILWAYS

IT'S NOT EVEN LIKE, STUDY ABROAD, IT'S A FOUR-STUDENT ONE-PROFESSOR RESEARCH PROJECT

I THOUGHT HE DIDN'T PICK ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET AN EMAIL AND THEN TODAY HE CALLED ME AND NOW I AM HAVING A HEART ATTACK OF JOY

AND MY FRIEND YING IS GOING TOO OH MY GOD SO EXCITED

AJULKSFGDSJFDSLGDSFJGSLDSLF FOREVER

CAPSLOCK FOREVER

GOING TO CHINA

ETA: NOT A PRANK I hate April Fool's Day anyway (also for any of you creepies who are worried, I am 100% certain that the mod post/situation in [livejournal.com profile] ontdcreepy is a prank, after all they let a post through before that lolol)

ETA2: I want to go bake brownies to celebrate but a guy is coming to look at the kitchen :CCCCCC (planned kitchen overhaul because it is oldddddd) I won't be able to bake until like, tonight. MY PLANS, I HAD A SCHEDULE, WHY DOES NOBODY ASK ME ABOUT MY BAKING NEEDS.

Also, some more information about the trip now that I am calmer: It's with the professor that I was just talking about yesterday (lol I know I know, but he's a nice guy for the most part, just...a terrible teacher...). The tentative dates are July 11th-30th (two weeks Beijing, one week Shanghai) and everything's payed for and there's compensation of $400 a week (YEAH FOR REAL that's pretty average for the school's summer research opportunities but WAY more than I make in a week lol). And I will be helping produce an actual finished piece of research that will be SO AWESOME for grad applications.

LMFAO and dad just came in to talk about it with me because he's been to both Beijing and Shanghai so he wanted to impart wisdom about 13-hour flights and food in China. And then he veered off into talking about two articles on trans men he had run across this week, one about Chaz Bono and one about some male model that he was all over because apparently this guy lifts weights like a mofo (dad is a bit of a gym monkey lol).
