Ready Whipped faux covers
Feb. 13th, 2013 01:30 pmBest thing: spending my two-hour break between classes (or what's left of it after lunch) finishing up swag designs. Also, knowing how to use Inkscape. I'm really enjoying that. (You guys have no idea how much it confused me the first time I tried to use it.)
Anyways, I have ten more minutes before my next class, so in that time you guys get another post! I'M SO PROLIFIC. This is less complaints about old buildings and more eBook covers.
Sooo awhile (A. WHILE.) back I asked for fake story ideas to make sample eBook covers for.
seventhbard/sugar_for_sugar gave me a bunch of really super awesome ones, and I ended up designing two covers for Ready Whipped, described as follows:
Ready Whipped by Junie Stursik (a comedic creative nonfic by a humorist who talks about her experiences trying to write a cookbook for lazy chefs, an endeavor in which she ultimately fails)
Here's the first cover I made, that's generally what would, IMO, actually fit the tone of the book:

I chose not to put an outline on the lighter top part because it looked crappy when I did. BEHOLD MY COMPLICATED DESIGN CHOICES~
(As a note, in general, it's a good idea to put an outline on any white or near-white eBook cover since a lot of them are going to be displayed on white pages.)
Then there's the second cover I made...

This one is a bit retro again, because I just have a thing for books from a few decades ago. I described it thusly to
seventhbard:
the second one was more in the mood of it being one of those heartwarming humor nonfics - basically, the kind of book it would have been if it were written about a decade ago - as opposed to the more quirky humor nonfics we see today where the life lessons are more likely to be 'be prepared to fuck up, and also twitter exists' rather than 'hold your family close and draw inspiration from your garden'.
This is also the first cover I did that required two stock images. I just had to, THE BACKGROUND IS SO CUTE.
OKAY I SHOULD GO UPSTAIRS FOR CLASS NOW~
