I just realized what tomatoes taste like! They taste like nightshade fruit.
Well, duh, that's what they are. But what I'm talking about is specifically Woody Nightshade, which grows around our house. It produces little berries that turn red when they're ripe. These berries smell so bad that when we were younger, we used to use them as improvised stink bombs - throw them at people, put them where someone would step on them, etc. The smell wasn't so bad that it would make you sick or anything, but it was definitely unique and pungent.
And tomatoes taste like that smell to me. I seriously cannot understand why people like raw tomatoes. I bite into them and ew, ugh, um, foul stink taste, why am I eating this?! It's like somebody farted on my food.
IDEK, people's enjoyment of raw tomatoes is such a mystery to me.
