It's snowing - hooray!
I came downstairs to catch the tail end of one of the Law & Order shows featuring a transwoman in some way. Apparently mom had been ignoring the show in lieu of making breakfast - until I got there, at which point she started putting on a startling display of transphobia.
Some of my favorite lines that she put on us (nobody was really listening with her, although Paige tried to disagree on some points and then gave up):
"Is it a man posing as a woman?"
"If it hasn't had a sex change, it's still a man."
And she continued to pointedly use masculine pronouns while asking about the plot of the show (even though she had been in the kitchen, from which you can directly see into the living room, the entire time; but then again she's so stupid I'm sure she could have probably managed to miss the entire show).
I found it startling because so far she's been keeping any transphobia she has to herself; maybe me being in the house for the holidays has irritated her and she feels the need to jab at me. Then again, maybe she just thought she was making discussion; this is, after all, the same woman who argued with me for a good hour or so that 'asians aren't Christian'. In response to Paige saying that a Taiwanese friend of hers couldn't hang out that day because she was at church. "Oh, they don't call it church, dear..."
