HORROR MOVIES EAT FOREVER

Did a bit of a horror movie marathon today! Here's what I thought.
The Innkeepers
Really good! If you like ghosty movies and don't mind jump scares, I really recommend it. I actually came to really like the two main characters, which is unusual for me in a horror movie.
Don't Go In The Woods
I, uh, um, well. It's supposed to be a 'horror musical'. What it is is a typical teen slasher movie, except the victims are musicians, and they spend half the movie singing songs that are completely unrelated to the 'plot' or situation in general. Also, there's a twist at the end, but it's one that got old in this genre aaaages ago; I managed to guess it from the beginning, and you know if I get it it's pretty obvious.
Haunted Changi
This one is pretty good. For a bit I wasn't sure if it was just a sort of copycat of Grave Encounters, but it seems to be more like they're both in a reeeally specific sub-sub-genre. Genre: horror, sub-genre: paranormal investigations, sub-sub-genre: really big reality-bending malicious buildings. It didn't spook me often, but then again, neither did Grave Encounters, and I loved them both, although this one has a slightly different taste to it. And no, there's none of that...um...what's at the end of Grave Encounters (don't want to spoil anyone; it's a good movie) and in fact it doesn't play up the hospital theme at all, which makes sense since they're concentrating on the mass murder/genocide history of the location.
The Loner (in Korean, with really terrible subtitles)
Okay, I have to admit I only read like half the subtitles, so I was pretty much perpetually confused here. But the subtitles themselves are badly-written, with a lot of awkward and unclear translations, leaving out a lot of punctuation (and it seems sometimes leaving out a lot of words) and there are a lot of spelling errors/typos. Also, from what I do understand, it portrays otaku (or the Korean equivalent) in a really negative and stereotypical light. Also, the movie would probably be pretty triggering on the suicide/self-harm/mental illness end

[02:31] tanzelt: i have no idea what's going on in this movie
[02:31] tanzelt: she's shoplifting panties now
[02:31] tanzelt: yes, subtitles, that's exactly what you yell at a shoplifter
[02:31] tanzelt: "HEY! STAND THERE!"
[02:36] tanzelt: 'okay, listen to teacher and wish you are happy'
[02:36] tanzelt: lol, that is a really pessimistic teacher
[02:37] tanzelt: DREAM OF BEING SOMEWHERE BETTER
[02:37] beasts_and_men: Haha, yeah
[02:37] tanzelt: YOU'RE MINE NOW, KIDS
[02:52] tanzelt: okay now thy're just all killing htemselves. i really don't know what's going on any more
[02:52] tanzelt: there's death and bugs everywhere
[02:52] tanzelt: and a phone charm just unravelled itself
[02:58] tanzelt: 'you are not a human. i'll take care of you.'
[02:58] tanzelt: well-spoken
[03:01] tanzelt: lol joo-yung is slicing his leg open for no reason
[03:01] tanzelt: he looks really happy about it though
[03:01] tanzelt: yay for joo-yung
[03:16] tanzelt: AHHH THE CLOTHES MOVED A LITTLE ON THE COATHANGERS THIS IS WORTH A BLOOD-CURDLING SCREAM
[03:17] tanzelt: LOL how the fuck did she end up in a well
[03:17] tanzelt: what is going on
[03:22] tanzelt: LOL SHE HAS LEARNED TO USE BLOOD AS A PROJECTILE
[03:22] tanzelt: like that lizad that spits blood from its eyes
[03:22] beasts_and_men: lol nice
[03:22] tanzelt: she makes a cut across her wrist, then squeezes it into a fist
[03:23] tanzelt: SQUIRTING BLOOD IN HER DAD'S EYES TO BLIND HIM WHILE SHE ESCAPES
[03:23] tanzelt: genius
[03:24] tanzelt: 'you don't know the pain of being hurt so nakedly'
[03:24] tanzelt: are we talking about that classroom again
[03:24] tanzelt: because we ahven't seen that teacher for awhile
[03:42] tanzelt: ...why is that lady in an air duct
[03:43] beasts_and_men: Escaping?
[03:43] tanzelt: she's dead though
[03:59] tanzelt: apparently it was all about the disapproval of her father somehow
[03:59] tanzelt: i'm not sure who 'her' is at this point
So yeah, that's what I watched today. BTW, any recommendations? I'm running low on good, recent horror movies to see. I heard Megan is Missing has been really creeping people out, but...it's like...a crime-based horror right? That tends to bore me, unless it's got a really attractive killer, like the Hannibal movies. I prefer supernatural horror. I might end up digging through these Paranormal Activity copycats that are floating around, to see if there's any that are moderately good...

That yahoo conversation was hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed passively experiencing that movie, it was made of ridiculousness (sand and horror, too, though).
...Also hai. *follows you over to your journal to do some catching-up*
