Ugh LJ

Oh look, the new comment pages went into effect. Joy.

I don't understand why something like this, that sacrifices functionality for someone's questionable ideas of aesthetics, can't be optional. Usually I don't care too much what changes they make to LJ, but hiding comment subjects? What the fuck?

Also, with the way comment pages load now, no way will I be able to browse on my phone. Again, no added functionality. This is all just so it 'looks better'.

I have a feeling they're blindly reaching towards the 'facebook' aesthetic in hopes it will make LJ seem more trendy/relevant. If that's the case, I am seriously unimpressed. There are very few good reasons to imitate a more popular service or company, and I can't see any of them being at play here. Facebook isn't even a direct competitor. You might call LJ social media, but facebook is not a blogging platform, nor is anybody using it like one, although the function is potentially there.

I might just be irritated by the fact that facebook is everywhere these days. I don't have a problem with facebook. I have a problem with all the websites that suddenly offer syncing of your account there with your facebook account. How many people actually use that? I've observed very few on LJ. It shows a lack of understanding as to why facebook is so popular and how to increase interest in one's own site. It worries me when the websites I enjoy are clearly in the hands of people who don't know wtf they're doing.

I'm going to stop now, I should probably sleep. Oh, but first:

If [livejournal.com profile] ocelotofdoom and I were to take over a terraforming mission and make the planet into a, hmm, Genosha, who would want to come with us? Privilegebutts need not apply, you can take over your own terraforming mission and go make Planet Bigotry and enjoy yourselves over there. Fair warning: I will probably institute communism. Feel free to fight me on it though

P.S. Also help me settle on my next haircut? I'm getting it done soon. Plz tell me what to do. Here is what it looks like now, I took pics just for you guys:

Terrible right? Make me some suggestionsss

Some Christmas-y things I've been doing!

THERE ARE PICS SO THEREFOR LJ-CUT )

And finally, a musicshare! I know that I am rather odd in enjoying all Christmas/holiday songs and never getting bored of them (at least not in the scant month and a half we are surrounded by them oAo SO MUCH CHEER, SO LITTLE TIME) so instead I gift you music that is not holiday at all.

So you may have heard of Bobby Montoya, a young transgender girl that recently joined the Girl Scouts, predictably resulting in controversy. Well, the decision has apparently led to three troop leaders (not the ones leading Ms Montoya's troops - these three are in Louisiana, not Colorado) resigning, and dissolving their troops. The article; warning for Bobby's mom saying some somewhat ignorant things in the article, and I have managed to keep out of the comments but assume there is nothing good down there.

Here's the thing that struck me (emphasis mine):

Susan Bryant-Snure, one of the leaders who resigned, told The Baptist Press that the Girl Scouts' action is "extremely confusing" and an "almost dangerous situation" for children.

I continue to be at a loss regarding what about us is so dangerous. Apparently even children among us are 'almost' dangerous - that phrasing in and of itself is confusing to me. At what point does it become actually dangerous? When Bobby gets older? Or when the Girl Scouts begin allowing transgender troop leaders? Or is it something else?

Really though, what are they afraid of? I know some people (many people?) still think we're all sexual predators...is this just the extent of it, and some are just hesitant to say it in as many words, so they use vague references instead? Or is it that their fear is as nebulous as the words they use?

And no, it does not put me at ease that bigots fear us. Fear is, generally, what leads to hate, so it is not a surprise to me. Fear makes people do irrational and sometimes dangerous things.
