SO HERE'S THE THING I have realized recently that most fans of X-Men have their own mutant self-inserts already all worked out in their heads and well

I'll show you mine if you show me yours

(That is only half as sexual as it sounds, if you haven't seen the First Class movie yet, and yes I am looking at you anobjectinspace)

I will also show you Paige's because she is too busy writing actual X-Men fic. Also if you want to be in the fic then give permission as well??? That was not going to be my intent with this post at all but it seems prudent to give all you bbs an opportunity to be written into her epic 'mutant team that actually makes sense and does superhero things instead of just training kids to attack ex-boyfriend' fic.

For those not sure about the mutant levels, here's the scale I'm using (there are some dif ones):

1 - mutants that can't do much of anything. You generally don't really see them in any of the continuities because they can't fight. A few of the morlocks are like this (just physical mutations).
2 - limited powers that can't be improved on with practice. Kitty/Shadowcat (in most continuities)
3 - limited powers that can be improved on with practice. Kurt/Nightcrawler (in most continuities, again)
4 - strong powers that have limited application or are easily negated. The Summers brothers (/Cyclops & /Havoc) + 'not-Summers-brother' Remy/Gambit; the Cassidys (/Banshee & /Banshee); Pietro/Quicksilver
5 - strong powers that have broad application & are difficult to stop. Erik(etc.)/Magneto (taking the 'magnet powers' explanation); Raven/Mystique; Rogue

Omega - gamebreakers. limitless power, often characterized by having to work to CONTROL rather than IMPROVE ON their powers. Xavier/Prof. X; Apocalypse; Shaw; Wanda/Scarlet Witch

Also yes I put down our actual real names (sans last name) but you don't have to do that lol. In fact you don't even have to do this whole bio thing I am doing, just tell me ur self-insert mutant side.

Codename: Nightmare
Powers: Limited shapeshifter
What the fuck does that mean: Okay so my mutation allows me to associate certain physical forms with certain emotions. Basically I ~become what I feel~ but I have only a few set forms and they start out looking very human and slowly become more developed the more I shift into that shape. None of them are exactly useful, although some are dangerous. They are all terrifying and inhuman, except for my 'base form', which over time is used roughly equally to my other forms. I have little control over it since it's emotion-based but can use music and memories to get into the 'right frame of mind' with practice.
Level: 3 (although when I am first discovered I am initially ranked as 1)
Alliance: Drifting rogue (a la Gambit) who frequently flip-flops between either team & going solo
Other stuff: My 'base' form is not what I was born looking like; my powers manifested with a spontaneous sex change to male at age ~16. I might possibly be able to take the form of my original body but I wouldn't ever try to

Codename: The Cockatrice, AKA The Dark God
Powers: Limited shapeshifter
What the fuck does that mean: Similar to above, but basically now I have lost my 'base'/human form (or rather still have it but never shift into it unless in the unlikely event of someone restoring my sanity manually, like Xavier, or accidentally/momentarily via emotional triggers), have about three times as many forms and am not restricted to conservation of mass when shifting. So some of my forms are now REALLY HUGE. Also, they have all become much more dangerous. I drool black sludge a lot and eat people. When content.
Level: 5
Alliance: At this point I would form my own team. Or cult. Depending on how you look at it. Everyone would think we were radicals but actually we're just a safe haven with a lot of angry mutants that I don't stop from going out to kill humans if they want to.
Other stuff: This is only a possibility. I would have to devour a person (using a very specific form from my original mutation) to get here. Going by Marvel's method of calculating probability, this would happen in maybe 1/3rd of my continuities. Also, if I reached this point I wouldn't really be sane


AND NOW PAIGE'S. She's in bed right now so um I might just be making some of this up.

Real Name: Paige Marie
Codename: Rainbow Dash (this was my suggestion. her response was "NO...well...maybe....")
Powers: Light refraction
What the fuck does that mean: She changes how surfaces reflect light, including color and reflectiveness. So she can do things like camouflage herself, project movies onto any surface she damn well wants, and blind you by turning the pupil of your eye opaque. All of this with practice of course.
Level: 3-4?
Alliance: I think she said neither? I am picturing her working in government with no real ties like Hank/Beast in the movies. More likely she would start at Xavier's and then say 'fuck this' when she realized they were just being made to fight out a long and tedious custody battle and lead the group of more intelligent mutants out of the Institute to start something more interesting.
Other stuff: I am pretty sure she would still be my sister. oAo Also due to her swiftness and small size and camouflage abilities she would make a good spy/assassin. However she cries if a fly dies of old age so maybe just spy.

EXACTLY you make each one a separate layer on the image and then go to 'save for web' and then set it to be a .gif, check 'animation' box and 'loop' box and um...wait I have a guide

Ok since I am already in the fic and also incredibly awesome I don't know if this will be any help but hey, hey, have it anyway.

Real Name: Christopher Reuben Nathaniel (Happy to use: Chris, Topher or Nate as shortening.)

Codename: It used to be Sable but tbh I'm not sure any more.

Powers: Mild prophecy, very mild telepathy, animal bodyshare (Idk what else to call that).

What the fuck does that mean: Very occasional and pretty useless prophetic dreams (ie of a room I then enter a week later and have never been in before etc), very occasionally pick up a thought or idea from someone's mind. The animal thing - I don't read their minds so much as am able to share their minds, share thoughts and feelings with them and run with them. It doesn't push them aside or out, it sort of fuses me with them. Only do it with permission from the animal unless it's an emergency. Can speak with them when in own body but it's telepathic and it's not in human words.

Level: 2 for the prophecy and human telepathy but the whole animal thing bumps it up to a 3 I think.

Alliance: None. Traveler. Will lend a hand if someone is in trouble. But doesn't do teams or alliances or being under orders.

Other stuff: Don't think there is any.
